So Who Is Dave Hickie?

Glad you asked. I'm a 50 something guy who has been married to the same great woman for nearly 30 years.

Believe it or not, we have 2 great kids (okay, young adults). I'd love to take credit for them, but who are we kidding? My wife is a fantastic mother. I have spent most of my working life in the swimming pool industry. Now that those 2 great young adults have left the nest to make their way in the world, I have started to transition into a career that will allow me to work from home. I have a voice that I have used as a hobby for many years. Why not use it to earn some money?

I have over 20 years of experience in bringing the written word to life in plays and musicals. I have been a Scarecrow, an Austrian Naval Captain with many children, a sane patient in an insane asylum, a Pirate Captain who was missing a hand, a brother to an orphanage maven, an English pickpocket, a miserly old man who hated Christmas, a con man who gets conned by a beautiful woman, and even an elderly woman who poisons homeless men with her sister to 'put them out of their misery', to name a few.

I have over 10 years of experience in bringing the written word of the bible to life as a lector in my church.

I have over 5 years of experience as the announcer for a high school marching band.

I have even had the privilege of performing the Star Spangled Banner at a couple of sporting events. 

What all of these things have in common is that they are done live. No do-overs. Being able to record, edit, cut, paste, re-record if necessary is a piece of cake after all of that. 

I have a set of questions that I give to each client to help me figure out what sort of read they are looking for. 

These have to do with the pacing, volume, tone, key words and style. The answers help me to zero in on their needs for the read.
